Miles de Santos de los Últimos Días se congregaron en la Manzana del Templo y en las oficinas centrales de la Iglesia y sus alrededores en una soleada tarde de otoño el sábado, 5 de octubre, para la segunda de las cinco sesiones de la Conferencia General Semestral N° 194 de la Iglesia.
Los asistentes a la conferencia se pusieron de pie con reverencia cuando el presidente Russell M. Nelson, quien no asistió a la sesión de la mañana de la conferencia general, entró al Centro de Conferencias para la segunda sesión.
El élder D. Todd Christofferson, del Cuórum de los Doce Apóstoles, abrió la sesión compartiendo la historia de los lamanitas conversos de los hijos de Mosíah que enterraron sus armas de rebelión.
“Podríamos preguntarnos qué podemos hacer para seguir este modelo, para ‘abandonar las armas de [nuestra] rebelión’, sean las que sean, y llegar a estar tan ‘convertidos al Señor’ que la mancha del pecado y el deseo de pecar sean quitados de nuestro corazón y nunca nos desviemos”.

El élder Soares animó a los Santos de los Últimos Días a alinear su voluntad con la del Señor. “Hacer nuestra la voluntad del Señor de manera irrevocable e incuestionable requiere un discipulado majestuoso y heroico”.
Debido a que los Santos de los Últimos Días conocen el plan amoroso del Padre Celestial y debido a la misión redentora de Jesucristo, el élder Kearon dijo que “podemos — y debemos — ser las personas más llenas de gozo de la tierra”.
Un momento destacado de la sesión incluyó un coro de niños compuesto por niños de 8 a 13 años de estacas del norte de Utah, quienes cantaron varias selecciones del nuevo himnario mundial, entre ellas “Getsemaní” y “Cuando vuelva el Salvador”.
